The Lady Braves made history by securing their first-ever championship of the Miami County Holiday Tournament, defeating Peru 49-36. Both teams showcased strong defensive efforts in the first half, effectively neutralizing each other's offensive strategies. In the first quarter, Ireland Kile was the sole scorer for the Braves, contributing 5 points, while the Lady Braves managed to limit Peru to 8 points, keeping the game competitive. In the second quarter, the Braves found their rhythm from the three-point line with Kile, Kasey Murry, and Delaney Betzner each hitting a three-pointer. However, Peru's offensive rebounding allowed them to maintain a 21-17 lead at halftime. During the break, the Lady Braves' coaching staff praised their defense, which held Peru's Addison Robbins to just 4 points. They focused on refining their offensive plays and making Peru work hard for every point. The third quarter saw the Lady Braves' depth come into play, as five different players scored. Delaney Betzner led with 6 of her game-high 15 points, while the team intensified their defense, holding Peru to just 6 points. The Braves outscored the Tigers 17-6, taking a 34-27 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Braves continued their teamwork, moving the ball effectively and sharing scoring opportunities among five players, outscoring Peru 15-9. Addie Maiben added 5 of her 7 points in this quarter. The Lady Braves played an outstanding team game, with everyone contributing to the adjustments made at halftime, leading to their victory. Coach Davis's Comments: "Tonight was a complete team win, and everyone played their part, whether on the court or in the practices leading up to this tournament. The growth since the Oak Hill game was evident tonight in front of our fantastic Brave Nation fan base. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our families and fans for their incredible support over the past two days. This marks our program's first Miami County Holiday Tournament Championship, and I couldn't be happier for these young ladies, my assistant coaches, and the entire program." The Lady Braves' next game is on Wednesday, January 7, at Tippecanoe Valley, with a 6:00 pm JV tipoff followed by the varsity game. They will then host Wabash on Saturday, January 10, honoring Lady Braves basketball alumni and former coaches before the varsity game.
