Varsity vs Taylor High School Braves fall to 1-8. Next game: at Tipton, on Friday. 6pm jv start. Coach Burrus Quotes:"Taylor was a tough game for us. However, if we start making shots these games will really tighten up. We just couldn't consistently hit shots. What I really liked was our execution. We got lots of open, high percentage shots that would not fall. It was frustrating because we really battled Taylor. They are very good but this game could have been much different. After watching the game we had some major positives. We moved the ball and got a good shot most of the game. We used several different defenses that our kids hustled and played well in all of them. We can build off this game. I wanted to write some extra things about this group. We are about half way through the season, and these guys have really worked hard every day of practice. We are building a team here at Maconaquah. We have a group here that will see better days, ahead. We are gaining a lot of great experience throughout this season. I wanted to say a couple of things about each player. Caiden Richards- He has been a backbone of this team. He has been relentless every day. He has really elevated his game this year. Caiden has really tried to make us a better team. He is having a great senior year. Treson Ambrose- He comes to rebound and takes a lot of pride in it. He also can guard a variety of players. Treson has really been determined to get better this season. He will continue to work hard for us. Cohen Helmuth- This has been great to see Cohen have big games. He has had some great moments. Cohen has a nice shot that will continue to improve. He has worked hard to help our defense this year, as well. Tyler Adams- He always knows what is going on. Tyler pays attention. He knows his assignments. He has worked hard this year and is very consistent with his effort. I can count on Tyler every day. He has had some big rebounding moments. Tristyn Herschberger- He has worked hard this season. He has helped us wherever he has been needed. Tristyn has been a team player this year. I have really liked his effort throughout the fall, and now this season. Marcell Sims-It has been great to have Marcell. He can really guard, and rebound. He has been very important to our team. He will continue to grow his offense. Jack Gochenour-He has really worked to become a scorer for us. Jack takes on a lot of responsibility on this team. Brody Kubly- He is a good on-the-ball defender. Kubly has really played a lot of good defense this season. He is also coming into his own on offense. Jude Callane-He has really improved his offensive production. Jude has became one of the leaders of the JV team. He is having a really good season. Levi Merritt- He has been a freshman who has made the big jump to varsity. Levi has done a lot for our team. His ability to guard any player, and rebounding are huge contributions. He has had big scoring moments. Jaxon Cole- He has played hard on both ends. He makes smart plays at key times. He has really been working to continue to improve. He is contributing to our varsity as a freshman. Evan Zeiser- I call him a designated 3 point shooter. He has made several 3's on the JV this year. He is really helping both teams. Brayden Stamper- He is able to play a variety of ways. He can shoot outside, and get inside and score. Brayden has been working to develop his total game. Colt Meyers- I have seen Colt really make strides in all phases of his game. His shot-blocking has been something I have noticed. He has helped two teams this year. He also runs the stat IPAD for varsity. Impressive. Juan Herrera- He came to us from Texas. He is the "Texas Connection. " Juan has helped two teams and hit some big shots. He plays the same against any player. Bentley Miller- He is very creative. He has a lot of moves. Bentley has more moves than a Christmas Goose. Look it up. I am enjoying coaching these players, and working with the coaches. Thse guys are learning a lot. They are continuing to improve, and are doing whatever is asked of them. I am proud to be the coach of these guys. Go Braves!!!"
