Lady Braves Triumph Over Southwood in TRC Matchup

On Tuesday night, the Lady Braves faced off against Southwood in a TRC contest. Southwood entered the game with an 11-5 overall record and 3-2 in the TRC. In the first quarter, both teams capitalized on each other's errors. Aubrey Stoll led the charge with 6 of her game-high 15 points, taking advantage of Southwood's turnovers. Delaney Betzner added to the score with a deep 3-pointer, totaling 5 points in the quarter. The Braves ended the first quarter with a 15-8 lead. The second quarter saw the Lady Braves encounter foul trouble, but bench players maintained the lead. Gabby Griffis and Averie Maiben contributed valuable minutes, while Addie Maiben stepped up as point guard due to foul issues, guiding the offense effectively. The Braves held a narrow 20-19 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, both teams found their rhythm. Southwood utilized six different players to score, while the Braves had contributions from five players. The Braves' effective free-throw shooting, with Ireland Kile scoring 6 of her 14 points, including 4 from the foul line, kept the score close. The quarter ended with the Knights leading 38-37. The fourth quarter began with Southwood extending their lead to 41-37. However, the Lady Braves intensified their defense, outscoring the Knights 16-5 for the remainder of the game. Aubrey Stoll's three consecutive steals sparked the comeback, ending her night with 7 steals. The Braves excelled at the free-throw line, finishing 14-15 overall, and secured a 53-46 victory. Coach Davis's Comments: "I'm very proud of the team for their collective effort throughout the game. We battled defensively until our offense picked up. Our team defense was outstanding in the last 5 minutes. Each player contributed to this team victory." The Lady Braves will face #1 ranked Whitko tonight in a TRC matchup. Whitko holds an 18-1 overall record and 7-0 in the TRC, while the Lady Braves stand at 16-3 overall and 5-1 in the TRC. On a side note: Coach Davis was the head coach at Whitko from 1994-1999 for the Lady Wildcats. JV game is set to tipoff at 6:00 in South Whitley with the varsity to follow.
