Varsity vs Lewis Cass Jr-Sr High School Braves fall to 2-12. Coach Burrus Quote:"Heartbreak!!! Our team really took this loss to Cass, hard. We controlled major portions of the game. Our kids fought hard to win this game. We didn't get the win but we did everything else. We did everything we could to win this game. We pressed and forced several steals. We played solid half-court defense to make Cass really work hard to score. We had long stretches of holding Cass without a field goal. We had some determined fast breaks. We also ran a lot of offense trying to break Cass down. We showed patience trying to get a higher percentage shot. We shot a good percentage from the line, as well. We had a 9 point lead that we lost in the last minute of the 3rd quarter. I liked how hard we played throughout this game. We played an even 4th quarter to go to overtime. We had our chances to win this game. It was a very tough game to lose. Cass starts four seniors and they all started last year. We battled them as hard as we could. The Cass game showed us what we can do against a good team. This was a game I had pointed to that would be a gauge of progress. I believe our team showed that we are a team heading in the right direction. Jack Gochenour scored 27 points. He scored all 10 of our points in the overtime. Levi Merritt was tremendous, scoring 13 points. He hit a huge 3 to give us a 24-18 lead at halftime. Marcell Sims was a big key with 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Caiden Richards distributed the ball and had a very good floor game. Treson Ambrose came in and had 4 big rebounds. Moving forward from this game, we have 8 big games left. With the Western makeup next Saturday, we have 4 games in 11 days. After Western, we play at Southwood, and at Sheridan. Then, we come back home to play Carroll. This will be a tough stretch. We will use every opportunity to continue to make progress. Thanks to everyone for coming out for the Cass game. The support was really felt by the players on the team.
