Lady Braves Season Comes To A End

By Ray Davis | Feb 16, 2026 8:07 AM

As I reflect on the morning after our regional game, the sun rises on a new day. Although Saturday didn’t go as hoped, the Lady Braves gave their all on the floor at Lapel. Facing a strong and athletic Connersville team, who held a 19-7 record and high rankings (#8 in Sagarin Ratings, #11 in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association poll), the Lady Braves showed resilience. In the first quarter, Connersville's sharp shooting led to a 17-8 lead. Ireland Kile and Delaney Betzner each scored 4 points, but Connersville's defense prevented the Braves from getting comfortable from behind the arch. Adjustments in the second quarter saw the Braves attacking the basket more effectively. Kile added 6 points, while Betzner contributed another basket. Key defensive plays by Addie Maiben, Aubrey Stoll, and Aubrey Kasier limited Connersville to 8 points, closing the gap. The third quarter continued with aggressive play, earning 6 of 9 free throws. Despite closing to within 6 points, Connersville's persistent responses, led by 6'1 sophomore Bottomly, extended their lead to 43-28. In the final quarter, the Braves fought hard, but Connersville tightened their defense further, securing a 55-30 win. Game Stats: Ireland Kile: 12 points, 4 rebounds Aubrey Stoll: 9 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals Delaney Betzner: 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks Aubrey Kasier: 1 point, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 block Addie Maiben: 1 assist, 2 steals Kadey Murry: 1 rebound, 4 steals The loss marks the end of the careers for seniors Addie Maiben, Averie Maiben, Gabby Griffis, and Eleanor Boshears. Their contributions have left a lasting impact, both on the court and in the classroom. Season Highlights: First Miami County Tournament championship in school history Back-to-back sectional championships after almost 40 years 20-win season, second most in school history Best defensive team average (38.1 points) Most games played in a season (26 games, 20-6 record) Best team free throw percentage (70%) Record for team assists in a season (364 assists) The Lady Braves and coaches extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Braves fans who supported us at Lapel and throughout the season. Your enthusiasm and support have been invaluable. Here's to a memorable season and the bright future ahead for the Lady Braves!
