Last year at the Logansport Invite, the conditions were cold and windy, and the Braves finished with a team score of 378. This past Saturday, the weather was once again cold and windy—but the Braves improved their total, posting a 366. Leading the Braves was senior Camron Metcalf, who carded an 83. Camron got off to a rough start on the challenging par-3 12th hole after missing the green to the right and facing a nearly impossible downhill par putt. He bounced back in impressive fashion, nearly driving the 300-yard 15th hole with his 5-wood and making an incredible up-and-down par save on 17. Camron also birdied the long 7th hole after sinking a downhill putt. Second for the Braves was sophomore JT Dobbs with an 84. JT struggled off the tee early, as his driver put him in some difficult positions. However, he showed great maturity by adjusting his strategy—often choosing less than driver to stay out of trouble—and relying on his strong short game. His 84 marks a 7-shot improvement from last season. Freshman Colt Myers finished third for the Braves with a 97. Competing in his first 18-hole tournament (on his 15th birthday), Colt understandably had some early struggles, especially starting on one of the toughest stretches of the course. As the round progressed, he grew more confident and began striking the ball well. With more experience, the long-hitting freshman’s scores should drop quickly. Junior Zach Duke opened with a solid tee shot on his first hole but ran into trouble in the trees on his second. He recovered well for several holes before struggling again on the 18th (his 10th hole of the day), with those issues carrying over for the next stretch. However, on the long 225-yard par-3 6th hole, Zach hit the shot of the day—sticking his approach to just 2 feet. He converted the birdie and finished with a 102. Sophomore Jayden Overdorf, who had been playing excellent golf coming into the event, struggled with the subtle slopes and fast greens at Dykeman Park Golf Course. After a rough start, Jayden pressed to recover lost strokes, which led to further challenges. He finished with a 103, well below his expectations. Thank you for Coach Lunday and the staff at Dykeman Park Golf Course for another well run tournament and a challenging, but fair, golf course. The Braves are back in action again at Dykeman Park Golf Course as they play the Logansport Berries with a 5pm start As always the Braves appreciate the support of all the parents, family, and friends that support the team each outing.
