The Maconaquah Braves traveled to Dykeman Park Golf Course to take on the talented Logansport Berries. The match did not go as the Braves had hoped, as the home team came away with a 174–190 victory. Logansport’s Graham Taylor and Evan Brandstatter shared medalist honors with impressive rounds of 36. Leading the Braves was sophomore Jayden Overdorf with a 45. Jayden got off to a strong start, highlighted by a terrific up-and-down on his opening hole, and played his first three holes at just one over par. Though he had some trouble coming in, his 45 marks a season low. Senior Camron Metcalf finished second for the Braves with a 46. Camron struggled to get comfortable on the greens, and inconsistent putting led to a higher-than-usual score. Zach Duke was third on the team with a 48. After opening with a double bogey, Zach bounced back and was playing well before hitting a tree with his second shot on his fourth hole. He recovered nicely and finished strong, also posting a season low. Sophomore JT Dobbs and freshman Colt Myers each shot a 51. JT had an uncharacteristic night around the greens, where he typically excels, and also battled putting issues. A tough break on hole 7 left him in knee-high grass, requiring three swings to get back in play. Colt struggled to make solid contact, as the wet ground caused several mishits to fall well short of expectations. The junior varsity team posted a total score of 223. Sophomore Owen Woolever led the JV squad with a solid 50. Playing his usual steady and smart style of golf, he kept the ball in play and avoided any major mistakes. Ayden McKinley followed with a 55. After a shaky start due to first-match nerves, Ayden settled in and was striking the ball much better by the end of the round. Senior Joe Butcher, also competing in his first match of the season, had difficulty finding a rhythm throughout the evening. Having recently returned to the team, Joe continues to work toward regaining his form. Aivry Ward and Carston Hollars rounded out the JV scoring with rounds of 60. Aivry, playing in his first high school match, showed flashes of strong play along with some expected growing pains. Carston, typically a strong iron player, struggled with consistency and fought a tendency to miss right, but ended his round on a high note with a tremendous shot on the par-3 ninth hole. The Braves return to action Thursday as they take on a strong Warsaw team at 5:00 p.m. at Rock Hollow. The team would like to thank Coach Lundy and the Dykeman Park Golf Course staff for their hospitality and for providing a great playing experience despite the rain over the previous 24 hours. As always, the Braves appreciate the continued support from parents, family, and friends who come out to cheer them on.
