With only one golf left on the course, things were looking bleak for the Maconaquah golfing Braves. Tied with Wabash and six behind Northfield, the Braves needed number five golf Colt Myers to come through and come through he did. Colt shot a high school career low 44 to lead the Braves to victory over Wabash outright and a fifth player score playoff over Northfield. Colt’s long game has always been outstanding, but a focus on his short game helped shoot his career low. Colt made a fantastic bogey on the third hole after lipping out a bunker shot and making the short putt. Senior Camron Metcalf tied Colt for low score with a 44 as well. Camron did not get off to a great start by being five over after four holes. He was able to bounce back and play the last five holes in only two over to par to tie for low school for the Braves. His highlight hole may have been the bogey he made on the eighth hole after his second shot went out of bounds by mere feet. He hit a fantastic fourth shot short of the green then got up and down for bogey. Sophomore Jayden Overdorf also bounced back after a mid-round hiccup cost him a quadruple bogey on his fourth hole (the fifth) hole by birdying his seventh hole and finishing the round well with a 47. Junior Zach Duke caught a bad break when his opening tee shot drifted out of bounds, but he recovered and made a par with his second ball. Despite not having his A game, he kept his composure and finished with a 49. Sophomore JT Dobbs had a fantastic night hitting his driver as he found every fairway. Unfortunately he did not have a good night with his short irons and wedge, usually a strong part of his game. This struggle led to a 50. Not a great score for JT, but his score did allow Maconaquah to win the three way meet in fifth score playoff. Sophomore Owen Woolever also shot 50 on the night. Owen was strong off the tee, but kept finding tricky lies around the greens and struggled to get up and down. Overall Maconaquah finished with 184 (a season low) that tied Northfield, but Maconaquah won on a fifth score playoff. Wabash finished third with a 191 As always the Braves appreciate all the parents, family and friends that come out and support the team each match. The Braves are back in action Thursday at Rock Hollow playing Western and Southwood with a tee time of 5:00pm.
