Last week Freshman Colt Myers came in with an impressive career high school low to earn Maconquah a victory, last night Jayden Overdorf proved the difference maker. The long hitting sophomore’s round did not get off to a great start as he was seven over par after five holes, but he saved his best golf for last. After three straight pars, he hit a tremendous second shot from under a tree to the green on the par five 11th hole. Jayden rolled in the eagle putt to finish with a round of 40. His score was the best score for the Braves and won medalist honors for the match. Second for the Braves was Senior Camron Metcalf. He had some very solid pars and a great up and down to save par on the 14th hole. A couple of bad swings led to doubles on both hole 15 and 16, but bounced back to record a final score of 43. His score of 43 was also good enough to tie for second in the match overall. Freshman Colt Myers played another solid round and finished with a final score of 45. Colt had been fighting his swing the past few days, but seemed to be back on track Tuesday night. Colt played steady, hitting solid recovery shots and playing smart golf. Sophomore JT Dobbs did not have the night he had hoped to have. JT had been working on his full swing intently on practice, but his wedges got him in trouble on Tuesday. After a tremendous drive on 14, he mishit his approach from a tough lie. That let to a double bogey and a final tally of 47. Junior Zach Duke rounding out the scoring for the varsity team with a 49. Zach didn’t have the start he hoped as he got in trouble off the tee which led to some early double bogeys. Zach was able to bounce back and play solid golf the rest of the round. At the end of the evening, Maconaquah’s 175 was good enough to win the County Championship over North Miami (180) and Peru (188). The 175 was also the season low for the Braves golf team. In junior varsity action, Carston Hollars led Maconaquah with a very solid 52. Carston, showing his senior maturity, played smart golf, avoided big numbers and played it safe off the tee. Junior Ayden McKinley was second for the Junior Varsity squad with a 53. Ayden parred the 17th hole to offset some earlier double bogeys. Sophomore Owen Woolever was third with a 55. Owen was playing very well, before a misinterpretation of the local rules led to a high score on the 10th hole. Junior Clay Christopher shot a season best 56 Tuesday. Clay’s game of accurate tee shots and solid putting is a great for the Peru Municipal Golf Course as he shot his season low there last year as well. Senior Joe Butcher started on the challening 18th hole and wasn’t able to get off to a good start. He was able to rebound and play solid golf in the middle of his round before struggling on the last two holes. His 58 was fifth for the Braves. North Miami won the JV match with a final tally of 202. Maconaquah was second with a 214 and Peru third with a 224. Huge thank you to North Miami’s coaching staff for a well run match and the staff at the Peru Municipal Golf course for the wonderful course conditions. The Braves are back in action Thursday at Leaning Tree Golf Course for the Armed Forces Day Leaning Tree Invitational. As always, the Braves appreciate the support of the parents, family and friends that come out and support the team.
