Lady Braves Compete at Kokomo Country Club For the first time this season, the Lady Braves golf team had all five golfers compete, taking on Kokomo at Kokomo Country Club. Senior Aubrey Stoll earned match medalist honors in a round that featured some incredible shots and an impressive comeback. After a few bad breaks left her six-over par through her first three holes, Aubrey caught fire. She birdied the first hole (after starting her round on No. 6) and followed it with an incredible up-and-down on the par-3 second hole. After pulling her tee shot, Aubrey found herself in thick grass inside a bunker with bushes restricting her swing. With very little room to work, she popped a sand wedge onto the green, leaving herself a 12-foot putt — and drained it for par. Two holes later, she provided another highlight. After a big drive on the par-5 fourth hole, Aubrey hit an 8-iron to just three feet and sank the putt for eagle. After starting six-over par, Aubrey played her final six holes in two-under par. Her final score of 40 earned her match medalist honors by four strokes. Senior Delaney Duke didn't have the round she was hoping for as she battled the quick greens. Playing through some ankle pain, Delaney hit solid drives, irons and chips but couldn't get enough putts to fall. She finished with a 58, the second-best score for the Lady Braves. Junior Delaney Farnham had trouble off the tee, which led to a higher score than she had hoped for. Playing several second shots from thick rough or behind trees made attacking the greens difficult. She also struggled to read the breaks on the fast greens, narrowly missing several putts throughout the evening. Delaney finished with a 61. Sophomore Brina Smith made her season debut Monday and showed plenty of improvement. Starting on No. 9, Brina opened with a nice drive and gave herself a putt for par. Although it rolled past the hole and she was unable to convert the bogey putt, it was a strong start to her first competitive round of the season. Brina finished with a 62 — an eight-shot improvement from last season! Sophomore Evelyn Hanson made her Lady Braves golf debut and got off to a strong start with a bogey on the second hole. In her first-ever competitive golf event, Evelyn experienced both successes and challenges. She struck the ball well from the tee and fairway but had some difficulty around the greens. She finished her debut with a 66. Kokomo won the match 197-221, but the Lady Braves had plenty of positives to take away from their first competition with the entire lineup together. The Lady Braves are back in action Tuesday, August 11, at Etna Acres against Southwood.
