Brother-to-Brother Connection Starts a High Scoring Night for the Braves

The Maconaquah Braves soccer team traveled to Taylor HS on Thursday night to take on a shorthanded Titans squad. The Braves chose to even the sides, playing 9 v 9 throughout the match. Scoring early and often, the team was able to secure the win and allow some of their newcomers to get valuable varsity minutes. The scoring started just 6 minutes into the match with a brother-to-brother connection as Colton Beebe made a long cross that found the foot of his brother, Cohen Beebe, who put it in the back of the net. Less than a minute later, Colton scored the Braves’ second goal assisted by Luis Mendoza. Colton stayed in the action with an assist to freshmen Martin Chaires for the third goal before Martin slid into a mishandled ball by the Titan’s goalkeeper, notching back-to-back goals for Martin. After no involvement with the 4th goal, Colton rejoined the action with his third assist of the match which led a streaking Darwin Aguiriano past the defense for the score. Diego Jimenez scored his first varsity goal after the Braves were awarded an indirect kick from the 6-yard line (assisted by…you guessed it, Colton Beebe). The final goal of the half was knocked in by Kamarious Armstrong after receiving a through ball from Chase Million making it 7-0 at halftime. The second half allowed ample time for all of the Braves’ players to see the field. The only score of the half for Mac came off a great corner kick by Chase Million. After the ball bounced around the box, it leaked out of the top of the 18 where Diego Jimenez was waiting to fire it into the goal. Wyatt Lee played a good second half as Goalkeeper for the Braves, stopping anything that made it to the box except for one ball. After squeaking past the defensive line, a Titan striker was able to capitalize on a one-on-one situation with Wyatt. The Titan goal brought the game to the final score of 8-1. Coach Wilhelm was happy with the effort from the whole team, saying, “It’s great to see our guys playing well and having fun. I’ve got to give a shout out to our non-starting underclassmen – some of them are getting their first varsity minutes and really showing they belong (Max Berryman, Martin Chaires, Deigo Jimenez, Kamarious Armstrong, Caleb Barnett, Conner Bullins, Wyatt Lee, Diego Midence-Soto, and Chase Million)”. Coach Sparks said, “Tonight was a great game to get everyone involved. It’s great to see our veteran players spreading the ball around in this type of game. 5 of our 8 goals tonight were scored by freshmen”. “MVP of the Match” – Colton Beebe with 1 goal and 4 assists in the 1st half. The Braves move to 2-0 and have the weekend off before travelling to Northwestern on Tuesday for their first conference game of the year. Come out and support the Braves in what should be an extremely competitive TRC matchup on August 25 at 5 pm at Northwestern!
