Braves Fall to Northwestern

By Jonathan Cole | Aug 25, 2026 10:09 PM

Braves’ soccer returned to action Tuesday night, traveling to Northwestern for their first conference matchup of the year. As expected, the contest was highly competitive throughout the night with each team making solid runs at the goal. Although Brody Kubly had a great night in goal, two Tiger through balls for scores proved to be the difference in the match with the Braves taking their first loss of the season, 2-1. Jaxon Cole scored the sole goal for the Braves from the top of goal box after receiving a pass from Joel Loshnowsky just 10 minutes into the game. The Tigers evened the score with 13 minutes left in the half and took the lead with 18 minutes left in the 2nd half. The Braves had a few scoring chances late in the match but couldn’t find an equalizer. Coach Wilhelm said, “It’s a tough loss against a conference opponent. We’ll get back to the drawing board and hopefully learn from our mistakes.” Coach Sparks said, “We’re going to need a lot more than a drawing board if we want to beat them in sectionals again this year.” “MVPs of the Match” – Jaxon Cole and Max Berryman. Jaxon had a goal and solid play in the middle of the field throughout the game. Max stepped in with big play and big minutes at the left midfield position after a teammate went down with an injury. The 2-1 Braves hit the field again on Saturday at noon when they host the Eastbrook Panthers.
