The MHS boys’ soccer team hosted the Eastbrook Panthers on Saturday afternoon. The game featured the hot August sun as well as a few amazing flyovers from the Grissom Air Show. The Braves were able to secure a 5-0 victory on the day. The scoring started on a beautiful offensive attack as Darwin Aguiriano played a ball over the defense to Colton Beebe who took control before making a nice heel kick to Evan Zeiser who crossed it into the goal box. Joe Manueles was able to put a shot on the goalie who mishandled the ball, which led to a crashing Jaxon Cole putting it in for the score. The second goal of the match came off a Colton Beebe corner kick to the head of Joel Loshnowsky who found the back of the net. Goals three and four were both scored by Joe on great offensive runs, with the second being assisted by Darwin. The final (and most exciting) goal of the day came with approximately 1:30 left in the match when Kamarious Armstrong put a perfect corner kick into the box which Caleb Barnett was able to get his head on for his first varsity goal! The Braves’ defense had a good game, minimizing the Panthers’ chances, which helped our “new” goalkeepers settle in - as two of them left with the game with head injuries. Cohen Beebe played a great second half in goal with some impressive saves. “MVPs of the Match” – Offensive – Joe Manueles with two goals and several other great offensive runs. Defensive – Gideon Pier with solid play on the defensive line. Wildcard – Caleb Barnett coming up from the defensive line to score his first varsity goal. The Braves move to 3-1 on the season and head to North Miami on Wednesday for their next match.
