Braves Top Eagles in Shortened Match

By Jonathan Cole | Sep 3, 2026 9:47 PM

After high temperatures forced the Braves to miss their Wednesday night match, they returned to action in pretty much the same heat to take on Oak Hill on Thursday. The Braves and Eagles were only able to battle for one half, as mother nature showed up again with severe weather causing the match to be called off at halftime. The Braves were up 2-0 when the game was called. The two scoring sequences for the Braves were set up by great passes. The first goal came with 16 minutes left in the half as a Colton Beebe pass sent Joe Manueles forward and wide. Joe was able to elude a defender and put a crossing ball into the box where Diego Jimenez took an aggressive stab at it, knocking it past the goalie. The second goal came 7 minutes later when Jaxon Cole split the defenders with a pass that was played off Joe’s chest at the top of the box. Joe was able to keep control of the bouncing ball, bypass a defender and put a nice shot past the Oak Hill keeper. Cohen Beebe kept a clean sheet at Goalkeeper. Coach Wilhelm said, “We controlled the ball well tonight. It’s good to see continued improvement, especially when we’re going up against other talented opponents.” Coach Sparks said, “We succeed when we play good team ball. The boys are starting to buy in to the fact that our unselfishness creates great opportunities throughout the game.” “MVPs of the Match” – Diego Jimenez with an aggressive offensive attack and Levi Merritt controlling the back line and attacking the ball at the right times. The Braves move to 4-1 on the season and have some time off before hosting Blackford next Wednesday.
