Maconaquah Schools

The Lady Braves volleyball team traveled to Rossville for the 12-team Rossville invitation Saturday. The ladies in blue won the first two matches against Pioneer (25-10, 25-20) and Carroll (25-12, 25-9) to win our pool. After the lunch break, we played a crossover match against the Westfield JV team. We played a solid match but could not keep up with the impressive skill of the junior varsity team from this 4A powerhouse who went on to win the tournament (16-25, 18-25). Our final match saw us battle Lafayette Central Catholic. We were able to win a long first set but dropped the next two sets to finish the tournament in fourth place (27-25, 19-25, 12-15). Setter Delaney Betzner led the Maconaquah offense with 66 assists, six kills, and five aces. On defense, Betzner had five blocks and 27 digs to hit her 1,000th career dig. Middle Ireland Kile topped the attack with 30 kills, four blocks, four aces, and a team-high 30 digs on the day. OH Kasey Murry downed 20 kills, dug up 17 balls, served six aces, and blocked three balls. Fellow outside hitter Lucee Jernagan tallied 10 kills and had eight digs, while Aubrey Kaiser added seven kills, five aces, and also had a team-high 30 digs. Libero Naomi Cook saved 15 points with a dig and served three aces. Freshman Bailei Boggs garnered six kills. Eliot Fuller had five kills from the middle. Sara Gil-Bonnin scored four points with a kill, and Ida Kiener had seven digs. Freshman Bristol Yoder got in on the action with a dig and a service point. The Lady Braves are now 14-4 (TRC 4-0) on the season. We travel to Southwood Tuesday for our next match.
