Playing shorthanded once again, the Braves traveled to Western to battle the Panthers on Monday night. Although the game was low on goals scored, the energy and action were high throughout the match. Each team had several scoring opportunities, but only the Braves were able to capitalize. Freshman Martin Chaires scored the 1st and only goal of the match with just 3 minutes remaining in the game. The goal came after Luis Mendoza played a ball up to Joe Manueles who one touched it to Martin in the middle of the box. Martin was able to slide by a defender and put a solid right foot into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead and eventual final score. Coach Wilhelm said, “We had great energy today. Darwin was giving more effort than I’ve ever seen from him. The back line was pressing when they needed to and making it back to defend the goal as well. Our midfield guys controlled and possessed the ball throughout, and our attacking guys work well together to put pressure on Western’s defense and keeper. Brody is our leader from the goal and continues to be a consistent anchor for the team.” Coach Sparks was once again unavailable for comment. “MVPs of the Match” – Luis Mendoza controlling the middle and leaving all of his energy out on the field and Martin Chaires who scored the lone goal of the match.
