Maconaquah Schools

The Maconaquah Lady Braves turned in their best nine-hole team score of the season on the back nine (par 37) at Chippendale Golf Course in Kokomo, firing a 204 to finish second in a four-team meet. Eastern won the match with a 195, followed by Maconaquah at 204 and Lewis Cass at 219. Peru did not record a team score. Maconaquah’s 204 was its best nine-hole score of the season by an impressive 17 strokes. Senior Aubrey Stoll once again led the way for the Braves, shooting a 3-over-par 40 on the par-37 back nine to earn match medalist honors. One of the highlights of Stoll’s round came on a par four when she blasted her drive over the green. Faced with a difficult recovery, Stoll showed off her short game by getting up and down for birdie. Senior Delaney Duke also turned in a memorable performance, firing a career-low 46. Duke displayed plenty of power during the round, crushing a drive on a 268-yard hole that finished only about 20 yards short of the green. Her career-best score gave Maconaquah a strong second score behind Stoll and fourth place overall in the match. Sophomore Evelyn Hanson continued her improvement by tying her career low with a 59. Hanson’s round included a bogey on the 16th hole as she put together one of her strongest performances of the season. Junior Delaney Farnham also finished with a 59. Farnham struck the ball well throughout the round, but struggles with the putter prevented her from turning several good holes into lower scores. Sophomore Brina Smith rounded out the Maconaquah lineup with a 66. Smith hit the ball well from tee to green but had trouble around the putting surfaces, where several extra strokes added to her final score. The Lady Braves counted Stoll’s 40, Duke’s 46, and the matching 59s from Hanson and Farnham to finish at 204. More importantly, the round represented another major step forward for Maconaquah. Cutting 17 strokes off its previous best nine-hole team score showed just how much the Lady Braves have improved as the season has progressed. The Lady Braves are back in action Tuesday at Etna Acres when they play against Wabash, North Miami and host Southwood.
