Two differing sets with one super close all the way and then a blow out followed for a county victory. The Lady Braves 8th grade volleyball team defeated county rival North Miami in 2 by scores of 26-24 and 25-8. The first set was a lot of back and forth rally with free balls and each team making some bump, set, spiking attempts to keep the ball in play. Confidence and persistence played a big part finishing with the 2 point lead for the victory. The second set scoring started rolling with 4 ace serves by Hattie Hatcher and followed by 4 more serves that were kept in play by Dena Salazar being more assertive to tip and block balls at the net and the defense keeping the ball off the floor. Hattie finished the game with another 6 jump serves going for points. She was supported by the offense of Dena, Adela Houlihan, and Lenix Fuller. The defensive play stayed focused and made passes to target which was carried out by Ruby Kintner, Ellie Chilcutt, Kinsley Rich, Cayman Reeser, Ava Hawkins and Evelyn Fruth. Serving for points also was Eden Davis with 3, Adela and Ruby with 4 and Dena and Evelyn with 2 each. It was exciting to see the girls comeback after a close win to dominate the 2nd set for the County Championship. Way to believe in yourself Team!
