The Maconaquah Boys’ Soccer team captured their 11th win and a share of the Three Rivers Conference Title as they hosted their rival Peru Tigers on Wednesday night. The win moves the Braves to 11-2-1 as they head into sectionals next week. Being the last home game of the season, the Braves celebrated “Senior Night”, celebrating the playing careers of their 7 seniors: Colton Beebe, Luis Mendoza, Joel Loshnowsky, Joe Manueles, Joel Bojorquez-Batista, Justin Acuna, and Ethan Lee. As promised by Coach Sparks (in the last match recap), the Braves made a push to try to create more offensive attacks in the season closer, starting the scoring just four minutes into the match. The boys kept their foot on the gas, scoring 4 goals in the first half – 2 from senior Joe Maneules and 2 from senior Luis Mendoza. Senior Colton Beebe added a second half goal before a junior finally got involved in the mix as Darwin Aguiriano notched the final goal of the match on a free kick from outside the box. Peru’s Jaxson Hannigan scored their lone goal of the game with a final score of 6-1 in favor of the Braves. Coach Wilhelm said, “It was a good win and a great way to send our seniors into their final post-season – as TRC Champs! A lot of these guys have played crucial roles on the team throughout their high school careers and will be missed after the season ends.” Coach Sparks said, “After losing a tough game to Northwestern early in the season, our conference hopes were slashed a little. We stuck with it and swept the rest of our TRC opponents to give ourselves a shot to get a piece of the title. Hard work by the team and a little late-season shuffling within the conference makes us TRC Champions!” “MVPs of the Match” – SENIORS – started and played most of the game, securing the win and TRC Championship. The sectional draw has the Braves facing the Rochester Zebras in the first-round next Wednesday, Oct 7th at 7 pm. All sectional games will take place at Northwestern High School as the Braves look to defend last year’s sectional crown. Go Braves!!
