Daisy Williams earns fourth medalist honors as Lady Braves win at Whitko

It wasn’t pretty on Thursday for the Lady Braves got bad bounce after bad bounce and bad break after bad break. Balls hit signal sticks and kicked into the rough. Well hit approach shots rolled off the sloping greens. Excellent chips ran longer than expected and off the other side of that green. Despite it all when all the scores were tallied the Lady Braves moved to 4-0 on the season by winning 196 to 241. Daisy Williams did not get off to a great start, but she bounced back from two early bogeys by birding her fourth hole after a brilliant up and down from short left of the green.. She hit solid shots all day, but as stated above, had some bad breaks as putts broke away from the hole at the last second and solid irons rolled further than expected. She wasn’t pleased with how she played, but her 2 over par 38 was good enough for her fourth medalist honors in four matches. Sophomore Aubrey Stoll’s game off the tee was nearly flawless as each drive was long and landed in the fairway. Unfortunately she had a few bad breaks like a second shot hitting a signal stick and the ball being kicked into the rough and a few other shots going over the green. Aubrey showed mental toughness by following each bad break with a superb recovery shot. Her final score of 48 was not what she wanted, but was good enough for second overall in the match. Fellow Sophomore Delaney Duke also showed maturity on the course. After a bad 16th hole, she rebounded by playing the next holes in level bogey. Her final score of 54 was good enough for third overall in the match. Deleaney’s game has really improved the past few weeks and it would not be surprising to see her shooting in the mid 40s by the end of the season. Senior Finley Dobbs was playing well early in the round, but had a bad break on her fifth hole as a well struck chip rolled across the sloping green, off the front, then 15 yards down a hill. She didn’t stop trying and grinded out a 56. Sophomore Emma Bond round started rough as she struggled with her second hole, a tight par five with out of bounds right. After that she could never get her round going and finished with a 62. Emma has put a lot of work into her game off the tee and there were signs of improvement as she belted a few long drives. As she gets more comfortable with her driver, her scores will drop. In Junior Varsity action, Junior Jade Christopher finished with a 66. She hit the ball well, but had trouble with the longish rough and the sloping greens. Freshman Delaney Farnham and Emma Morris did not get ot finish, but both are still learning the game. Again there are more good shots than bad and it won’t be long until their scores represent that. The Lady Braves have a few days off before they are back in action on Tuesday August 27th in a four way match at Tipton Municipal Golf Course against Northwestern, Peru, and host Tipton. As always the Lady Braves appreciate the support of all the parents, family and friends who come out to support the team.
