The Maconaquah Lady Braves finished second at TRC on Saturday at windy RocK Hollow with a team score of 373. The score is the teams second best 18 total of the season, but was also on the toughest course the team has played all season. Each player got off to a slow start, but instead of giving up, each player scored significantly better on their second nine holes despite the wind picking up and the temperature rising as the day worn on. Senior Daisy Williams led the team in scoring with an outstanding 77 in very windy conditions. Daisy started her round with a birdie on the first hole, but had a bit of a struggle the rest of the front nine. Her front nine total of 41 put her five over par for the day. Daisy bounced back by birdying the 10th hole after a fantastic wedge shot. She played steady the rest of the ninc until hole 17 when she hit a tremendous drive, chip and putt for another birdie. On 18 her pulled driver ended in a fairway bunker. Her short iron shot out of the bunker had to be one of the best ever witnessed by this writer as it stopped 10 feet short of the hole. Daisy finished with a 77, which tied her for second overall. Daisy finishes her TRC career with four all conference honors, three individual TRC titles, and two team titles. Sophomore Aubrey Stoll started her round with three consecutive double bogeys. After giving herself a pep talk, Aubrey slowly began to return to form by hitting long, straight drives and solid iron shots. She finished her first nine with a 48 but battled back with a 44 on her second nine. Her final tally of 92 earned her all conference honors for the second year in a row. Senior Finley Dobbs has been putting in extra work on her golf game recently and all that hard work paid off on Saturday. Finley, like her teammates, got off to a bit of a rough start and shot a 49 on her first nine holes. The gritty senior stepped her game up and played her second nine holes in only 44 strokes. She didn’t let any bad breaks, like an excellent chip to the 14th hole not going one more foot and rolling near the hole, by coming back and hitting an incredible approach shot on the 17th hole to 7 feet. Her 93 was her career low and earned her all conference honors. Sophomore Delaney Duke played through a bit of knee discomfort which didn’t allow her to swing the club as smoothly as she liked and she also got off to a slow start with a 59 on her first nine holes. She got a bit of a break on the 10th tee and that time seemed to help her as she hit a fantastic 5 wood from the rough 180 yards away from the green that ended up just short of the green. She followed that up with pars at 13 and 14 en route to a second nine of 52 and a 111 on the day. Her 111 was good enough for fourth on the team. Sophomore Emma Bond got off to a slow start as her first nine total was 64. Despite the long rough and heat, she found a way to improve by 9 shots on her second nine. This occurred even thought she had trouble with the long grass and round on hole 10, Her tall of 119 was one of her best 18 holes scores of the season. The Lady Braves final tally of 373 placed second to a very good Rochester team who shot 334. Peru finished third overall with a 417. The Lady Braves are back in action Monday as they face Eastern and Lewis Cass at Chippendale in Kokomo As always, the Lady Braves appreciate the parents, family and friends that come out and support the team each match.
