Maconaquah's junior varsity blanked the Whitko Wildcats, 46-0, at home Monday night to improve to 2-1 on the year. The young Braves raced to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter and held a comfortable 38-0 lead at the half. The entire second half was played with a running clock with the IHSAA "Mercy Rule" (lead of 35+ points) in effect. Mac's defense set up its first score by stopping a fake punt by the Wildcats at the Whitko 23. Alexander Martin's 23-yard TD scamper on the Braves first offensive play set the tone early. Aiden Ousley caught the PAT conversion pass for a quick 8-0 lead at the 7:55 mark. It didn't take long for the Braves to add another score as Nate Rader intercepted a Wildcat pass 24 ticks later and returned it 38 yards to paydirt. Caiden Richards hit Camron Metcalf on the two-point try for a 16-0 lead. Richards tacked on the next score with 4:13 left in the opening act when he was flushed out of the pocket on a fourth-and-15 situation and rambled 34 yards to the endzone, 22-0. MHS stretched its lead to 30-0 in the opening minute of the second period when Richards connected with Jorden VanNess on a 10-yard TD and conversion pass. Richards broke free for a 66-yard TD run down the home sidelines late in the half. Martin's conversion run gave the hosts a 38-0 lead with 1:29 showing. Richards lead all rushers with 100 yards on his pair of TD runs. Martin added 67 yards on six carries, while Blaine Scarlett finished with 60 on seven totes. After a scoreless third quarter, Scarlett would provide the final count, 46-0, with a 14-yard TD run up the middle and successful two-point conversion run with 7:10 remaining. Maconaquah's defense held Whitko to 45 rushing yards on 28 attempts and got interceptions from Rader and Ousley. Rader and Brayden Tabler forced Wildcat fumbles. Evan Blake had a fumble recovery in the second quarter. Credited with three tackles were: Metcalf, Rader, Ousley, Richards, Scarlett and Jack Zelinsky.
