Playing in their last sectional championship, Seniors Daisy Williams and Finley Dobbs made sure it was one to remember. Daisy Williams did not get off to an ideal start by bogeying her first hole an playing the front nine in four over par. Her back nine got off to an inauspicious start as she hit her second shot on the par five tenth hole into the water. Undaunted she took her drop, chipped her fourth shot close and made the par putt. She parrend the next four holes before finishing with a birdie barrage. She birdied the 15th hole after a tremendous drive left her a short chip that lead to a short birdie putt. She bogeyed the 16th hole after her wedge flew long on the 120 yard par three. She bounced back by hitting an aggressive tee shot on the par three 17th hole and making that putt for birdie. Finally on the par five 18th hole she hit a tremendous drive that lead to an short approach shot and yet another birdie. She played the back nine in two under par and finished the day with a 75. This 75 gave her first individual sectional title by two strokes. Fellow Senior Finley Dobbs was not going to allow Daisy to have all the glory on Friday as she also saved her best sectional play for last. Finely parred the first hole, but then double bogeyed the second hole after a three putt. Undeterred Finley played the next seven holes in only two over par. Finley made the turn in personal best 40, tying her with Daisy Williams for the nine hole lead. Finley continued her solid play on the back by making clutch chips and putts, including a near chip in on her final hole. She shot a personal best 86 which secured her third place overall in individual standings. The trio of Sophomores that makes up the rest of the varsity team did exactly what was expected of them to help the Lady Braves secure the title. Sophomore Aubrey Stoll did not get off to the start she had hoped for as a few bad tee shots and bad breaks lead to her shooting 47 on the front nine. Showing the same resillaince she had displayed all season, she bounced back by playing extremely well on the back nine, especially the finish. She parred the par four 15th hole after a big drive left her just short of the green. She then parred the 16th and 17th hole with excellent tee shots, before finishing with a bogey on 18. Her final tally of 88, which was a 6 shot improvement from front to back, was good enough for fourth place overall in the individual standings. Sophomore Delaney Duke also did not get off to a good start as she double bogeyed her first hole and took a nine on her second hole after having to take a two stroke penalty for a rules infraction. Instead of letting that effect her and bring her game down, Delaney showed great maturing and playing each shot with utmost focus. She made the turn in 54 on the front and a 57 on the back. Her 111 was good enough for fourth place for Maconaquah. Sophomore Emma Bond, much like Daisy and Aubrey, was able to bounce back from a challenging front nine in which she shot 60, by shooting a 54 on the back. This improvement shows Emma’s understanding of the game improving as she kept grinding out good scores even though she was hitting the ball as well as she usually does. Emma has focused on her chipping in practice and it has paid off as she continued to excel in chipping on Friday as she made multiple up and downs during the round. At the end of the day, the Lady Braves scored a season low 360 which was enough for a 33 stroke victory (over second place Peru) and a third straight sectional title. They will play in their fifth straight regional this coming Saturday at Battleground in Lafayette. They will be joined by Peru and third place finisher Northwestern. As always, the Lady Braves appreciate the support of all the parents, family and friends that come out and support the team each match.
