It wasn’t easy, but Daisy williams will play for a state title in girls golf next week. After being three over after four holes, Daisy found her groove and played the next thirteen holes in even par. She bogeyed the 18th hole after her approach shot went long, but at that point her advancing to state was secure. Daisy’s ball striking on the day was outstanding as she hit multiple approach shots with in fifteen feet of the hole, but putts either stopped on the edge of the cup or ended up inches away from falling in. Her final tally of 76 was good enough for sixth overall and the right to advance to the Girls State Championship at Prairie View on October 4th and 5th, As Senior Daisy Willaims career will continue one more week, fellow Senior Finley Dobbs saw her career come to an end at regionals. Finely’s game wasn’t as sharp at it had been when she finished third overall at sectionals, but she found a way to grind it out hole by hole to keep her score as low as possible. She played steady on both nines shooting 48-50 on her two nines. Her final total of 98 was good enough for 3rd on the team. Sophomore Aubrey Stoll completed her second regional tournament with a solid 96 on the day. Her tournament started roughly as she made an eight on her first hole after her tee shot ended up in deep, wet rough making it tough for her to advance the ball. She bounced back quickly by birding her second hole and parring her third and fourth hole. After some tough breaks on the par three fifth hole, she settled down and played steady golf the rest of the way. Fellow Sophomore, Delaney Duke, playing in her first regional tournament shot a solid 115. Delaney didn’t have the best luck off the tee as her driver was inconsistent, making good scoring a challenge as the already long course more of a challenge. Delaney’s score was good enough for fourth overall on the team. Delaney has gained valuable experience that will help her tremendously next season/ Sophomore Emma Bond, much like Delaney, had trouble off the tee which made good scoring a challenge. She finished the front nine with a 64, but as she has all season, she bounced back with a solid 55 on the second nine. Emma’s solid last season play will benefit the team next year. Overall the Lady Braves finished 8th in a field that had 6 state ranked teams, a solid showing with a team with three sophomores. Sadly the Lady Braves golf program says farewell to Senior Finley Dobbs who was a key player in the teams past three sectional wins and the 2022 TRC title. Her leadership and mentorship of the younger players will be missed as well as her positive impact on the program. The whole team wishes her the best of luck in the coming years. Fellow Senior Daisy Williams has one more tournament as a Lady Brave golfer as she plays in the Girls State Tournament for the consecutive year. Based on her consistent play all season, it should be an exciting tournament to follow. As always, the Lady Braves appreciate all the parents, family and friends that come out and support the team each week.
