Record Shooting Night in the "Braves vs Cancer" Game

Despite the cold weather outside over the past few days, the Lady Braves certainly brought the heat inside the Maconaquah gym. The team shattered their own record for three-point field goals, hitting 13 threes, with Delaney Betzner setting a new individual game record by sinking 8 threes, while Addie Maiben contributed 5. In the first quarter, it was noticeable that the Lady Braves had been away from the gym for a few days as they took some time to find their rhythm on the defensive end. Southwood managed to take a 15-11 lead in that quarter. Delaney Betzner scored three of her three-pointers during this period, and Aubrey Kaiser made a nice drive to the basket to contribute to the Lady Braves' 11 points. The second quarter saw the Lady Braves start to heat things up, hitting four three-pointers—two from Betzner and two from Maiben. Aubrey Kaiser added another basket and a free throw, rounding out the scoring for the quarter. However, it was the Lady Braves’ defense that sparked the turnaround, limiting Southwood to just one basket and six free throws, allowing the Lady Braves to take a 26-23 lead into halftime. After the break, the Lady Braves continued their impressive shooting, making six three-pointers in the third quarter. Both Betzner and Maiben contributed three each, while Ireland Kile added two two-point field goals, helping the Lady Braves score 22 points in the quarter. On defense, they held Southwood to only 8 points, extending their lead to 48-31 by the end of the quarter. The final quarter saw both teams making runs. Southwood outscored the Lady Braves 21-11, scoring 10 to 12 points in the last two minutes of the game. The Lady Braves went a perfect 3 for 3 from the free-throw line during this quarter. Additionally, this game was the Lady Braves' "Braves vs. Cancer" event, aimed at raising awareness about cancer and supporting a local family with expenses.
