Since January 2007, the Lady Braves had not secured a win against Northwestern, a streak that spanned 17 games, including both regular and postseason matches. However, this game marked a significant turnaround. The Lady Braves faced a tough start, falling behind 0-9 and failing to score in the first four minutes. However, their defense quickly turned the tide, allowing them to outscore Northwestern 11-2 for the remainder of the first quarter. During this period, the Lady Braves' defense was relentless, forcing 7 turnovers and achieving 7 steals. In the second quarter, the defensive pressure continued, with the Lady Braves forcing 10 more turnovers and adding 7 more steals to their tally. Offensively, the Lady Braves found their rhythm, scoring 18 points and shooting 44% from the field, going 7 for 16. They entered halftime with a lead of 29-22. As the third quarter began, both teams made adjustments, resulting in a balanced quarter where the Lady Braves outscored Northwestern 14-13. Five different players contributed to the scoring, and the team went 5 for 6 from the free-throw line. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Braves maintained their scoring distribution, receiving points from six different players and totaling 15 points for the quarter. Northwestern matched this score with 15 points of their own, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap. Key rebounds and steals by the Lady Braves in this quarter helped secure their victory. In a noteworthy achievement, sophomore Delaney Betzner broke the single-season record for the most made three-point field goals, surpassing the previous record of 54 set by Miranda Stoll last season. Betzner now has 56 made three-point field goals, with one regular season game and the postseason tournament still to play. Before the game, the Lady Braves honored their two senior managers, Kiara Cox and Tessa Holland, along with their families, as part of Senior Night. The program extends its gratitude for their service and wishes them the best in their future endeavors.
