South Bend St Joe 115, Maconaquah 81 Coach Burrus Quotes: "We came out in the first quarter and really batttled St. Joe to a 27-22 score after one. We had the game plan to really attack them and get them on their heels. The second quarter was the key quarter of the game. We scored 20 points which is a great offensive quarter, but we couldn't get key stops. We went into halftime down 20. The only way we were coming back was to keep playing fast, and put on pressure to get back in the game. The third quarter showed the character and desire of our Maconaquah kids. We played St. Joe to a 31-25 quarter. St. Joe is one of the top 10 teams in the whole state of Indiana and our kids played them almost even, deep into this game! The 4th quarter was a tough quarter for our team. Fuddy Kile fouled out. When he came out of the game with all that emotion, it started to sink in that the season was about to end. I decided at that point to let the seniors finish what they started. They played strong till the end. Josiah Ball ended being number 44 all-time in scoring. AJ Kelly finished with around 1,100 points in 3 varsity seasons. Fuddy Kile had over 500 points for his career, and had over 200 rebounds this season. Not bad for a kid a little over 6'0. Devon Murry became a big threat and a determined scorer his senior year. Landon Adams was a key to our defense and ball handling all season. He got better thoughout the season. Braylen Nipper was a senior that stuck with it and was a part of the championships. He worked hard every day and made everyone better. I am proud of these Seniors, and proud of this team. As far as the support of this team. We played at 10 am, on a Saturday. It is Spring Break for Maconaquah. We come on the floor and over 2000 Mac fans are in the Berry Bowl. Just like the sectional, we had more fans than the rest of the three schools combined. As we came out of the huddle I told the team to look over at that throng of people on an early Saturday morning. I said to them that they had created this. The tradition is all the great teams and people that have made Maconaquah what it is. But that moment was their moment. And they looked in amazement at all the support that was there for our team. Thank you for being part of this run. We won 4 titles this year. Miami County Tournament Champions-2 straight years TRC Champions Sectional 23 Champions Lapel Regional Champions- Beat Marion!!! What a season. What a career for these seniors. We will have awards night for this team after Spring Break. You can come and celebrate this season with us. The date will be announced later. The whole Maconaquah community was part of this. From our team, we are so thanful for all of you. I am proud to be the boys basketball coach at Maconaquah." Go Braves!!!
