Teeing off on Saturday, the Maconaquah Braves were hoping to shoot their lowest 18 hole total of the year. Four windy hours later, the Braves had done just that by compiling a season best 364 and a surprising 6th place finish in the Three Rivers Conference standings. Leading the Braves was Junior Camron Metcalf. Camron played very study golf, shooting nine hole scores of 43 and 41 respectively. Camron played very smart off the tee and was able to recover well when shots went offline. Camron’s tally of 84 earned him 8th place and all conference honors for the second year in a row. Freshman JT Dobbs was second on the team with a score of 89, just missing all conference honors by a few shots. JT shot nine hole scores of 43-46 by planning each shot and avoiding big numbers. Some well struck putts that didn’t fall and unfortunate double hit chip was the difference between all conference honors and finishing 12th. Junior Joe Butcher III recent hard work paid off on Saturday as he shot very steady 9 hole scores of 46-48. Joe, who hits the ball a tremendous distance, played smart off the tee hitting shorter clubs off the tee to keep the ball in play. The strategy paid off as he shot his career best 18 hole score. Sophomore Zach Duke has gotten his game into the shape he had been hoping for all season. Zach played well off the tee and hit multiple approach shots pin high. As Zach continues to build confidence, his scores will continue to drop. His score of 97 was good enough for fourth on the team. Freshman Jayden Overdorf struggled as the wind played havoc with his high arcing shots all day. Jayden did have some positive as he hit two approach shots to with in five feet of the pin, but the wind and some missed putts did not allow him to shot better than 101. Overall the Braves shot a season low total of 364, 23 strokes better than their previous low, and finished 6th place overall. Both good signs as the post season is quickly approaching. The Braves are back in action Tuesday as they play Cass along with county rival Peru on Tuesday May 20th at Rock Hollow. As always the Braves appreciate the support of the parents, family and friends that come out each match. PHOTOS: Camron Metcalf with his 8th place medal.
