The Lady Braves picked up their first win of the golfing season by defeating the Wabash Apache by 2 at Honeywell Golf Course Junior Aubrey Stoll earned her second medalist honors in row by carding a 47. Aubrey has been working hard on her game and it showed in her long game as she hit long, straight drives and crisp irons. Some short game issues, like a chip lipping out, cost her some strokes, but she finished with a par on her last hole and was able to defeat her Wabash playing opponent by 1 to catch medalist honors. Junior Delaney Duke was second for the Braves with a 53. Delaney, like Aubrey, did not have much luck on and around the greens, but on her 8th hole, she hit a tremendous 8 iron to the green and sank the putt for a birdie 2. Her round ended with a car honking on her downswing on her final hole, but she bounced back and recovered to finish the hole. Sophomore Delaney Farnham’s game continues to improve as she inches closer and closer to break 60. On the challenging Honeywell lay out, she finished with a 64. She had one miscue when her well struck approach to the 4th green went long, leaving her ball in knee high grass. She had trouble getting out of it and finished the hole with a 6. She played extremely well after that to finish the round. Senior Jade Christopher may have had the clutch shot of the match when she sank an across the green putt on the 6th green. That putt could have been the difference between a win and a loss tonight. Jade finished with a 68, Freshman Brina Smith hit the ball better than her final score 70 showed. As she works to learn the finer nuances of the game, it can lead to some offline shots that are difficult to recover from. Being a natural athlete, Brina progress has been tremendous. Fellow Freshman MacKenzie Thompson played well as well. She did have one miscue on the third green when she misunderstood the par, but accidents like that happen with young players. WIth her efforts to get better, she will be a good player in the future. As always, the Lady Braves appreciate the support of the parents, family and friends that come out and support the team at matches.
