When you think of courses that you can shoot a low score, the challenging Rock Hollow layout is usually not one of them, but sometimes playing your home course has it’s advantages. Junior Delaney Duke, Sophomore Delaney Farnham and Freshman Brina Smith all recorded personal bests on Thursday Night. Delaney Duke started her round in superb fashion parring three of her first four holes. She had great two putts on the third and fourth hole and took advantage of a fortunate bounce on number seven to keep her round going. Her final score of 46 bested her previous personal best by 5 and was good enough for second overall for the Braves and second overall in the match. Delaney Farnham’s final tally of 57 shows how far she has come in only one year of playing golf. Delaney opened her round with a long, accurate drive off the ninth hole and followed it up with an eight iron from 122 yards. That got her round going in a positive fashion as she followed up off line shots with great recovery shots and when she missed greens, she chipped well. This is the second match in a row that Delaney has set a personal best score. Freshman Brina Smith wasn’t even sure she would finish her round as she had a bit of back pain that made hitting balls on the practice range. Although that pain never left, she opened her round with a tremendous drive off her first tee and finished with a 67. This beat her personal best by 2. Not to be lost in all the personal best scoring was Senior Aubrey Stoll who earned her fourth straight medalist honors with a 45. Aubrey started her round with three bogey, but then birdied her fourth hole after a well played wedge ended only feet from the hole. A narrowly missed birdie putt on hole six and a driver shot that barely found the water on seven could have deterred her, but she found the mental toughness to finish and get the medalist honors. Senior Jade Christopher was fifth on the team with a 69. She hit some great shots, but also had some bad breaks. She hit a NO CART sign on one hole then had two great shots on the fourth hole hit trees and bounced way off line. She kept up her good spirits and never let the bad breaks bring her down. Freshman MacKenzie Thompson didn’t get to finish her round as it was getting dark and the Whitko team had a long ride home. MacKenzie was sitting at 54 strokes with two holes left, so she was trending to shoot a very solid score for her. MacKenzie had success off the tee and followed it up with well struck irons. When all the scores were calculated, the Lady Braves won 215 (Season Low) to 234 over Whitko. As always, the Lady Braves appreciate the support from the parents, family and friends that come out and support the team each match.
