Braves go 3-1 at the Huntington North Invitational The Lady Braves were in Huntington Saturday for the eight team Huntington North Invitational. After defeating Fort Wayne Wayne, Huntington North, and Eastbrook we fell in the championship match to Heritage. Maconaquah was 3-1 on the day and is now 9-2 for the season. During pool play we played three straight matches with two being very close three set matches. Despite periods of poor play the Lady Braves kept the ball alive and found ways to win our pool. We struggled to pick up the pace as we faced a more polished team in Heritage for the championship. They were a bigger and more athletic team than we had faced in the morning and we struggled to adjust as Heritage won in two sets. The Ladies in Blue showed good mental fortitude winning close sets and decisive third sets today. We will need that toughness and smart play as we head in to Conference play. The Braves attack was led by OH Nekane Hernandez with 33 kills, six aces, and one spike in the face. OH Kasey Murry dropped 25 kills and Ireland Kile added 15 kills from the MB spot. Setters Delaney Betzner and Averie Maiben had 44 and 36 assists respectively running our offense. Libero Addie Maiben tied Hernandez with six aces and led the team in digs with 48. DS Aubrey Kaiser tallied 39 digs and Betzner dug up 29 balls for the tournament. The Braves are back in action Thursday at home as we host Lewis Cass in our second TRC match. We will welcome our middle school Lady Braves for Middle school appreciation night. We will also have a fan serving contest between the second and third sets of the varsity match. Come try your hand at serving a volleyball!
