Despite the early start, the Lady Braves hit the ground running at the Rochester Invite. Four Lady Braves shot personal best scores as the team ended the day with a team score of 459, also a season low. Junior Aubrey Stoll started on the most challenging part of the course having to play the 17th, 18th, and 1st holes early in the shotgun start. She got through them in fine fashion then capitlaized on a well struck second shot on the 2nd hole to make her first birdie of the day. After mishaps on hole 7 and hole 11, Aubrey regrouped and birdied the par five 12th hole after a tremendous drive and well played chip. Aubrey’s final tally of 85 was her career low for 18 holes and earned her a 12th place finish is a very competitive field. Junior Delaney Duke was fighting her swing all day and could never get comfortable. She did what she could bouncing back from bad swings and bad bounces, but the grind of trying to escape from tricky situations time and time again led to some unusual high scoring for Delaney. Her 122 was good enough for second on the team, but did not meet her expectations. There is a lot of confidence in saying that Delaney will bounce back this coming week. Senior Jade Christopher, who played her first 18 hole match at Round Barn last year and shot 138, improved by 12 shots by shooting a 126. Jade, like her teammates, had to start on the toughest stretch, but once she got going, she played well. The 126 is a personal best for Jade. Sophomore Delaney Farnham, playing in only her second 18 hole tournament, cut 5 strokes off her first 18 by finishing with a 126. It was Delaney’s first time playing Round Barn, a course where you have to be precise off the tee and avoid the multiple water hazards. Delaney, as usual, hit some great shots, but had trouble recovering from mishits that landed in rough or bunkers. Freshman Brina Smith, also playing in second 18 hole tournament, improved by 9 shots. Brina is working on all aspects of her game to get better in the long term, so her short term scoring may go up for a slight period of time. Brina, like Delaney, was also playing Round Barn for the first time and faced the same challenges of what club to hit off the tee and how to avoid the hazards. Brina’s 130 was a 9 shot improvement from her first 18 hole score. As always, the Lady Brave appreciate the support of the parents, family, friends and basketball coaches that come out to support the team. PHOTOS: Delaney Duke teeing off on the 16th hole.
