What started out as a soggy evening at Round Barn in Rochester ended as a good night for the Lady Braves of the Maconaquah girls golf team. Leading the Braves was junior Aubrey Stoll. Aubrey wasn’t as sharp off the tee as she usually is, but played smart approaches into the greens and made some timely putts. A possible disaster on 15 when her tee shot ended up close to the lip of a fairway bunker and it took two Shots to get out. She was able to save a 6 on the hole and finished with a solid 46. Junior Delaney Duke started her round slow as she missed the green on the par three 10th hole and her drive on 11 hit trees. Delaney finished with a flourish however. She nearly drove the green on the 235 yard 17th hole. She followed that up by nearly driving the 225 yard 18th hole and finishing with a birdie. Her 48 was just a few strokes off her career low score. Sophomore Delaney Farnham continues to show promise in only her second year of golf. Extensive work with Coach Tim Cox, finally paid off as she found a lot more consistency in her ball striking, especially in her short irons. That new found consistency helped her shoot a career low 54. Freshman Brina Smith had some trouble with the wet rough and greens en route to shooting a 68. The wet rough made it tricky to advance the ball very far with any accuracy. Senior Jade Christopher also struggled with the wet greens as she had multiple three putts. She also had some very well struck shots hit one of the many trees lining the Round Barn fairways. Jade finished the night with a 70. Freshman MacKenzie Thompson had a very good ball striking night as her opening tee shot traveled over 170 yards and she had a birdie putt on the par three 10th hole. MacKenzie did struggle with her short game and putting as she finished with a 70 The Lady Braves finished third in the three way meet as host Rochester (186) took first and Lewis Cass (206) was second. The 216 is a 15 shot improvement on what the Lady Braves shot on the back nine at Round Barn in the Rochester Invite. The Lady Braves appreciate the support oft the parents, family and friends that come out and support the players each match. PHOTOS: MacKenzie Thompson looks over her birdie attempt on the 10th hole.
