Maconaquah's junior varsity football team fell to 3-4 on the year after the Rochester Zebras shutout the Braves, 36-0, Monday evening. After a scoreless first quarter in which both teams fumbled twice, Rochester scored on their next five possessions to claim the win. Maconaquah's Weylon Thompson got the young Braves off to a good start and in great field position early when he returned a fumble 30 yards to the Rochester 39 yard line. After a fumble and loss of 25 yards on their first play, the Brave's drive stalled and Rochester took over at its own 43. Both squads then traded possessions, ending the quarter in a 0-0 deadlock. The Zebras would then score TD's on runs of 11, 4 and 36 yards to take a 22-0 lead with 7:40 left in the third period. Five minutes later they scored via a 40-yard pass and finished with a six-yard TD with 7:44 left in the game. Maconaquah's biggest scoring threat came in the second period when the Braves reached Rochester's 30-yard line on a James Stambaugh-to-RyLee Peach pass that covered 13 yards. After Kacen Toepfer was stopped for no gain on first down, MHS turned the ball back over after two incompletions and a loss of eight on fourth down. Stambaugh finished the game hitting on 7 of 12 passes for 34 yards. Peach led the Braves receiving corps with three catches and 17 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, Thompson led Mac with seven tackles, a fumble caused and a fumble recovery. Also on the tackle charts were: Toepfer (6), Tru Brown (5), Tre Rader (4), Layton Ringeisen-Kidwell (4) and Dominick Miller (3).
